Physical Presence Calculator

Physical Presence Requirements

For Canadian citizenship application, you need to be physically present in Canada for:

• At least 1,095 days (3 years) during the 5 years before the date you apply
• You may be able to count time spent outside Canada as a permanent resident

Tips for Accurate Calculation

• Keep all passport stamps and travel documents
• Include partial days (the day you enter and leave counts as a full day)
• Only include time after you became a permanent resident
• Double-check all dates for accuracy

What Counts as Physical Presence?

Physical presence means you were physically in Canada. Time spent outside Canada doesn't count except in specific circumstances:

• Crown servants (including certain family members)
• Employees of Canadian Armed Forces (including certain family members)
